When the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, many Americans warned about the consequences of the ridiculous and moronic decision. Yes, the conservatives on the court are idiots, plane and simple.
Today we saw further proof of those consequences as the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that most abortions are to be banned. The Court used an 1864 law as its basis. TruthDem believes in a Woman's right to choose. Even so, couldn't the court use a modern law for its decision?
This kind of ruling shows how outdated and out of touch these types of laws are. This law is nearly 160 years old. States that are enacting anti abortion laws are backwards. They are being written by far right conservatives, who use the New Testament as their basis for their decisions.
Other religions, like Judaism does not ban abortion. Why? Because in Jewish law a baby isn't life until its born. The reason for this law was primarily to protect the life of the mother. The mother's life and health always comes first during a pregnancy.
I don't believe that these far right conservatives care about the mother. I think it comes down to believing women are inferior to men. They believe that a man's right is to rule over women. Women have fought for basic rights in this country for centuries.
It wasn't until 1920 that women in America could vote. That's 56 years after Arizona's 1864 law. When we as a country allow such ridiculous rulings to rule our lives we can be assured that this country is trouble.
The constitution of the United States states that church and state should be separate. I believe that abortion ban laws in Arizona, Texas, Alabama, etc. are based on religious beliefs. I believe they are unconstitutional.
The Alabama Supreme Court banned in vitro fertilization (IVF), which was a consequence of the overturning of Roe. Recently legislation passed, protecting IVF.
Their are times when a woman suffers a miscarriage and may need a procedure called a DNC to remove the the dead fetus. If a DNC is needed and not performed, a woman can die. In Texas a DNC could be ruled abortion and therefore illegal. This is another consequence of overturning Roe.
These types of consequences could have been prevented had the barbaric conservative justices of the Supreme Court of the US used their brains and not their religious beliefs.
