I love the United States of America. I love what America stands for or what it used to stand for. Gone are the days where candidates could openly debate with each other without slinging crude insults and threats. It is less common today than in the past for Republicans and Democrats to dine with each other.
Remember when Nancy Pelosi had a dislike for George W. Bush? Today that type of political dislike is laughable. Today's political climate calls for extreme debate and hatred type language against one's opponents. Some politicians even call for physical violence against their opponent.
Both sides of the political aisle are to blame. There are no innocent parties. I'm truly saddened by the current state of politics in this nation. As someone who loves to opine about politics, I find it troubling that Americans can't respectfully disagree with one another.
I pray for a day when Americans, can once again feel safe to voice their opinions without fear that another American will insult and ridicule them or even threaten them with physical violence. America has stood for the right of every American to be free to have their personal beliefs and to voice their opinions. That is what has made America a beacon of freedom and a truly great nation.
With each new election, the political divide widens and each party's extremes become more pronounced. It seems that centrist politics is becoming a thing of the past as the extremists are forging ahead with their dangerous agendas.
Today with the likes of Marjorie Taylor Green and Ilhan Omar, the tensions and craziness of the vitriol and hatred that opponents engage in is becoming increasingly troublesome.
My call to action for all Americans is to respect one another's opinions. Yes, debate with each other but please do so in a respectful manner.
